TripAdvisor Names Brentwood a Great Small City to Visit in 2018

TripAdvisor recently named Brentwood to its list of 23 Great American Small Cities to Visit in 2018. 

"This Nashville suburb makes a good alternative to staying more centrally. Getting out and about is a priority for Brentwood residents—join them on the various cycling and walking paths in the local parks, such as Smith Park and Crockett Park," TripAdvisor says. "Just a short distance away you’ll also find Radnor Lake State Park and the Warner Parks. The local dining scene offers everything from BBQ and burgers to Thai cuisine, and you can experience some of that famous local live music up close in central Nashville."

Brentwood Ranked as Tennessee's Safest City

Brentwood has been ranked as the safest Tennessee city by the National Council for Home Safety and Security.

Brentwood, the affluent suburb of Nashville, is the home of many country music greats and boasts a violent crime rate many times lower than the state average. The city has an average of 9.45 violent crimes per 1,000 and an average 39.33 property crimes per 1,000.

Rounding out the top five were Spring Hill, Collegedale, Germantown and Mount Juliet.

Youth Leadership Brentwood Class of 2018 Graduates

The Class of 2018 of Youth Leadership Brentwood received their diplomas on February 7 during a ceremony held at the Fifty Forward Martin Center in Brentwood.

During the five-month program, students took an intensive look at the Brentwood community and studied leadership qualities and skills. The 24 sophomores and juniors from six area high schools were selected on the basis of their leadership potential and their existing leadership skills, as well as their community and school involvement. Youth Leadership Brentwood is a program of the Williamson County Chamber Foundation, the nonprofit arm of Williamson Inc. Chamber.

Nashville Restaurants, Chef Named James Beard Award Semifinalists

Several Nashville restaurants and chefs have been named semifinalists for the 28th annual James Beard Foundation Awards.The awards gala will take place on Monday, May 7, at the Lyric Opera of Chicago. 

Area restaurants and chefs named semifinalists are Nashville's Henrietta Red, Best New Restaurant; Lisa Marie White of Marsh House, Outstanding Pastry Chef; Benjamin Goldberg and Max Goldberg of Strategic Hospitality (Pinewood Social, The Patterson House, The Catbird Seat and others), Outstanding Restaurateur; and Josh Habiger of Bastion, Andy Little of Josephine and Margot McCormack of Margot Cafe & Bar, Best Chef: Southeast.

Established in 1990, the James Beard Awards recognize culinary professionals for excellence and achievement in their fields and furthers the foundation’s mission to celebrate, nurture and honor chefs and other leaders making America's food culture more delicious, diverse and sustainable for everyone. This year's awards were selected from a list of more than 20,000 online entries. The prestigious group of semifinalists in 21 categories represents a wide range of culinary talent, from exceptional chefs and dining destinations nationally and in 10 different regions across the U.S., to the best new restaurants, outstanding bar programs, bakers and rising star chefs 30 or younger.
