High School Football Preview 15

BRENTWOOD BRUINS

Brentwood High School took another step forward last year, finishing 9-5 and advancing to the Class 5A semifinals. With 36 seniors returning, hopes are high that the deep and talented Bruins will improve again this season. But veteran coach Ron Crawford notes that high school students must learn to handle challenges away from the field, too. “In today’s world we battle with selfishness and outside influences and the impact they have on our team. If we can deal with these issues we believe we can have a successful season.”

BRENTWOOD ACADEMY EAGLES

At Brentwood Academy, success breeds success. The Eagles backed up their 2015 Division II-AA state championship with another title last year and expectations are high –yet humble – in 2017. “We are looking forward to a great season,” says coach Cody White. “We are fortunate to have a strong returning cast of players who helped us to success last year and in 2015. I appreciate their willingness to work.”

RAVENWOOD RAPTORS

For the third time in three years, Ravenwood will take the field with a new coach. But this time, the school promoted from within and the familiar face of coach Matt Daniels figures to be a reassuring influence for a young Raptors squad with three returning starters. “The players aren’t going to notice much of a change,” says Daniels. “They haven’t had to get used to somebody new. It helps everyone relax so they can focus on playing.”
