Delivering Flare and Flavor to the 'Local' Dining Scene 5

Local Taco offers upscale-casual
take on south-of-the-border cuisine.

Follow the sounds of professionals happily clinking glasses, chatting and munching on chips and salsa in Brentwood on any given night and you’re likely to find yourself on the patio at Local Taco, a Brentwood institution since 2009. Since its opening, Local Taco has become an important fixture on the Brentwood dining scene. The restaurant has developed a devoted following throughout the area with a regular built-in crowd that keeps coming back for more.

“We love Brentwood and Brentwood loves chef-inspired tacos and fresh-squeezed Rita’s,” says Tim Kohler, chief operating officer of Local Taco.

Mexican food has traditionally been a popular cuisine throughout the Nashville area, but when Local Taco opened, they introduced a whole new take on traditional south-of-the-border fare. Featuring eclectic chef-inspired tacos, locally-sourced ingredients and hand-crafted cocktails, Local Taco combines the flash of Tex-Mex flavors with the tradition and character of Southern food culture.

“I believe we are a ‘come as you are and feel comfortable’ restaurant,” says Kohler. “Our food is fresh and fun to enjoy with friends. Whether you are going out with your friends, kids, date night or straight from the golf course, our atmosphere encompasses an environment where all are welcome.”

With a diverse mix of flavors and styles, the menu features several items that you’d never find on a traditional Mexican restaurant menu. Unique highlights include: Korean BBQ tacos, House-smoked Brisket tacos, Southern Fried Chicken tacos, Buffalo Chicken tacos, Philly Cheese Steak tacos, Smoked Salmon tacos and Mexi Tater Tots with smoked jalapeño aioli. In addition, the drink menu features fresh-squeezed margaritas, red or white sangria, handcrafted cocktails and a variety of upscale tequilas.

Local Taco’s Brentwood location is one of eight restaurants in the Nashville-based regional chain’s geographic footprint. The popular chain has expanded from its three Nashville locations to Lexington, Ky. and Greenville, S.C. This summer it stretches into Alabama with new restaurants opening in Birmingham and Huntsville.

Kohler attributes the Brentwood location’s success to its consistency, locally-sourced products and its popular, hard-working general manager, Anne Claire.

“She’s at the top of her game on guest satisfaction and building and maintaining our Brentwood guest following,” says Kohler. “She has been instrumental in keeping our concept fresh.”

In addition to providing a unique lunch place for people working in Brentwood and Maryland Farms, the restaurant also offers a value-driven catering service for the entire Brentwood area. The service is available for all sorts of events from business lunches to weddings and catered parties.

Building on its tremendous following in the Brentwood area, Local Taco is intent on providing an even richer environment for its guests by remodeling and improving both the interior and exterior of the restaurant. They’re also gearing up to revamp their happy hour offerings with a newly developed craft cocktail list. Local Taco is poised to continue pleasing its loyal Brentwood following now, and well into the future.
